How I work
Design and product
Where it all began. Well, not quite. I found my passion for digital as a teenager, face-swapping my friends in the early days of Photoshop. Today it's part of my toolbox. I'm equal parts visual, experience and product driven, and I've worked in Agile teams alongside engineers, delivering the functional and the fantastical alike.
Strategy
My philosophy is to find the right balance between what users need and where the business opportunity is. I do my best to work out which is the right problem to solve, and when is the right time to solve it. With the right technology, a real understanding of the problem and some creative thinking, we can solve the most complex challenges. I push for design that centres on the user, with solutions validated by insight and data.
Leadership
Experience has taught me that teams do their best work when they're empowered to find their own way. I'd rather show people the way than tell them the next step, and make sure their successes are recognised and celebrated. Getting to know my team on a personal and a professional level lets me understand what each person needs and what motivates them, and that's how I've built and led high-performing, empowered teams.
Stakeholder management
Good working relationships are the cornerstone of our best work, with clients and within blended squads of product owners, business analysts, developers and researchers. Everyone, at every level, should have the opportunity to share their ideas and hopes for the project, and be listened to when they do. Communication needs to be clear and consistent, but also objective and constructive, and part of any client or team relationship is knowing when to be flexible and when to be firm.
